 VOICE AGAINST DOWRY SYSTEM IN PAKISTAN

Marriage is one of the religious obligations and an inseperable relation between two persons, infact two families. Marriage plays an important role role in human life. As it is a turning point of life. Responsibilities grow with time to time and if not managed properly it may lead to problems in life. When a person thinks about marriage of his daughter, the biggest hurdle he faces is to make arrangements for dowry, which is a first and foremost demand of a  so called literate society. Dowry is no longer a set of gift items intended for contributing towards a suitable beginning of the practical life of a newly married couple.

 

But it is a kind of compensation or bribe which is given by the parents of bride to the groom or his family. It is the biggest hurdle in marriage of a girl in this modern age. Social organizations and NGO'S are working to curb and condemn this and protect the womens rights and to fight against Dowry System. In the sub-continent, there are different customs and doings in the functions of wedding done by the families of bride and groom, but one thing which is common in most of the weddings is the trend of dowry. 

In pakistan society, people have made this system a symbol of their status to show others. However, dowry abuse cases are low after 2001 in Pakistan. 
  
In my opinion the only thing which can stopped Dowry System is distributing literatures, educating people through workshops and advertisements to bring the social change. No society is completely static and away from the change. An organization, 'ALL PAKISTAN ASSOCIATION' is making its efforts to change mindsets of people. It demands combined efforts from both the joining families especially youth to take bold steps and strictly boycott this wrongdoing.
